MRGC PRESENTED THE FOLLOWING 2019 GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS AT OUR ANNUAL MEETING HELD ON MAY 15TH. 

Annabel Henson is currently enrolled in Braden River High School and the State College of Florida. She plans to attend University of Florida or Santa Fe College. Her desire is to be a voice for agriculture as an advocate for the agriculture industry, majoring in Agriculture Communications. Annabel is working toward her FNGLA Certification, which is a voluntary certification for Florida nursery and landscape professionals. Barbara Beury and Sandy Plummer presented Annabel with a $1,000 scholarship from MRGC.

Alexis Ludwig attends Manatee High School and will be attending Florida Gulf Coast University, majoring in Marine Science with a minor in Environmental Education. Alexis has a love for nature and plans to pursue a career related to ocean and environmental conservation and hopes to conduct research on red tide and other local issues. Alexis is an intern at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. Barbara Beury and Sandy Plummer presented Alexis with a $1,000 scholarship from MRGC.

Megan McCarthy attends Palmetto High School and will be attending the University of South Florida, majoring in Environmental Science. her passion is to preserve our environment for future generations. Megan is interested in having a career in ecology, studying native and invasive species of flora, fauna and wildlife. She intends to use the scholarship to pay for summer classes she'll take to pursue her degree directly after graduating high school. Sandy Plummer presented Megan with a $1,000 scholarship from MRGC.

Palma Sola Botanical Park Foundation, Inc. received a grant from Eaton Funds to be used to plant annual and perennial entrance-way plants.  A $750 grant was presented by MRGC Sandy Plummer to Deirdre Van Collie and Ina Baden from Palma Sola Botanical Park Foundation, Inc.

Manatee County, Friends of Extension received a grant from Eaton Funds for Rose Garden ongoing expenditures and plant replacement. A $1,000 grant was presented by MRGC Sandy Plummer to Mack Lessig from the Friends of Extension.

Manatee Rare Fruit Council Inc. received a grant from Eaton Funds to be used for improvement and enhancements, including shell walkways, posts for Dragon Fruit, Boichar, trellis and educational signage.  A $2,547.00 grant was presented by MRGC Sandy Plummer to Peter Robertson, and Joshua Starry from The Manatee Rare Fruit Council.

Electa Lee Middle Magnet School received a grant from Eaton Funds for materials to build earthboxes for herbs, flowers, and vegetabes, including handheld tools, fertilizer, and a hose. A $1,000 grant was presented by MRGC Sandy Plummer toNathan Sims and Tamara Cornwell from the Electa Middle Magnet School. 

WD Sugg Middle School received a grant from Eaton Funds to be used for ABC Garden Box Planters. A $1,456.87 grant was awarded.

UF/IFAS Extension – Manatee County Community Garden Program received a grant from Eaton Funds to be used for seed trays, pots, soil, and soil amendments, plants, raised bed kits, pavers and bulletin boards.  A $1,700 grant was awaded.
